About Us

Our Voice amplifies the voices of families in their efforts to address public education, health, and economic-related challenges, Our Voice continuously creates learning spaces and partnerships with community-based organizations and civic leaders. As a result, parent leaders engage in advocacy and reform efforts around important, longstanding systemic barriers that impede progress for children and their families.

Through this work, parent leaders are enabled and empowered to rise to the existing challenges in the U.S. public education system and serve as mentors for families in need of assistance and solutions.

OUR MISSION

Our Voice: Communities for Quality Education is a digital conduit that equips economically disadvantaged students and families with the tools, resources, and knowledge to advocate for high-quality public education.

OUR VISION

Our Voice envisions a future where parents and students are recognized as equal partners in education, shaping a system that supports college and career success.

Our Story

Our Voice: Communities for Quality Education was founded by Evelyn G. Aleman, a parent of the Los Angeles Unified School District (L.A. Unified), during the COVID-19 global pandemic as a bilingual (English/Spanish) social media initiative that shares education-related news sources, resources, and services with families.

As a first-generation child of immigrants, and a parent, Evelyn has first-hand knowledge about the many challenges experienced by families when navigating the public education system and accessing resources that support student academic success.

The pandemic left many families unable to access vital information and resources required to support the academic and social-emotional needs of their children. In addition, families experienced a digital divide, which uncovered deeply-rooted inequities that further set their children back and kept parents out of the education conversation.

Our Voice is a response to the need for increased parent engagement, support and empowerment. It helps place parents at the center of the education conversation so that policy reflects their aspirations for their children.
